EA released Patch V.107 early this week with several fixes and stability improvements. There was, however, one fix that made a huge difference for eSports.
The tyre wear glitch
eSports leagues like PSGL and WOR ensure that they run cars that have equal performance despite having teams and cars that look like their real-life counterparts. Normally, this means that even though the cars look different and sound different, the handling, speed, tyre wear etc. will be identical, ensuring that the drivers are racing with equal machinery.
However, it was noticed recently that the equal performance setting did not give the cars equal tyre wear, with the worst car having wear as bad as two laps less than the best car. Needless to say, in fields of highly competitive drivers where a tenth of a second can make the difference between pole position and fifth place, this bug became a huge issue.
The leagues mitigated this problem by running the so-called "world car", that's just a generic F1 car until EA patched it a few days later.
Final thoughts
One other fix worth of mention was the issue where a player would experience a big drop in frame rate when someone disconnected from a session.
As usual, we're glad that EA patched the tyre wear issue so quickly, but we think it shouldn't have been there in the first place. These are the type of bugs that should get fixed during beta testing, and in a game series that's been around for so many years, we expect better.
