Patch 1.07 for F1 22 was released today bringing along the usual patches and bug fixes. One bug fix was a change in throttle application that will hopefully reduce the straight line speed advantage of the AI.
The other exciting part of this update is the introduction of the Portimao track that was last seen in F1 2021. This track is really fun to drive and race with a large range of corner types and massive elevation changes. Playing this track on VR should be amazing.
The speed bug
This issue is essentially caused by the AI having better traction out of corners and gaining a huge advantage over the player. The AI get on the power earlier than a human player giving the appearance of the AI having a straight-line speed advantage. This issue is apparently much worse in career mode than Grand Prix mode. Patch 1.07 has a fix for this that should reduce this advantage of the AI but a future update should balance it out fully.
Final thoughts
This patch is a good sign that the developers are not only listening to some of the concerns from the F1 22 community but are also addressing them. The inclusion of Portimao is a nice bonus but we think that they should rather focus their resources on fixing the many remaining issues with the game instead.
The F1 series of games from Codemasters/EA has been around for over a decade. We expect a polished experience with amazing stability and performance but get instead a bug-riddled mess just about every year. The price has increased massively since EA took over but sadly, the quality of the product hasn't.
