The recent release of Assetto Corsa Competizione Update 1.9 brought with it some new cars, a new track and a few changes to the tyres and handling. We're going to quickly run through a few important things you need to know to get the best out of Update 1.9
Steering Rotation
The three new cars, just like the existing cars, have various steering wheel rotations that must be set up correctly to ensure that you get the car to handle as the developer intended. You need to adjust it in your steering wheel's software and in-game.
Car | Rotation | |
---|---|---|
Ferrari 296 GT3 | 1000° | |
Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO 2 | 620° | |
Porsche 992 GT3R | 800° |
Having the wrong settings here will make the car feel horrible and more or less undrivable.
Tyres
The optimal tyre pressures for all cars is between 26 to 27. Ideally, you should keep the front and rear pressures as close together as possible to prevent handling imbalances. You should also experiment to find out if moving the pressures to the upper or lower parts of the range suits your driving style.
The temperature range is between 70°C to 100°C. This is quite a wide range and should yield good grip levels right across the range. However, surface temperatures can change quite quickly depending on how much load you place on the tyres, especially during excessive rotation or aggressive changes of direction.
Speed
Cars are slightly faster in a straight line mainly because the rolling resistance of the tyres has been lowered. You'll see higher top speeds that bring the ACC in line with their real-world counterparts.
Suspension
The anti-roll bars have much more of an influence on handling, especially in the upper range of stiffness. The springs can be used effectively in both soft and hard settings. Depending on the track, you could find that maxing out the springs in either max hard or max soft could be the best setting.
Final thoughts
There has been talk about "meta" setups for ACC, but we think that there's no substitute for getting out on track and finding out what works for you. The new cars on ACC are amazing to drive, with stunning handling and impressive feedback.
We tried the Ferrari 296 GT3 with the Agressive default, which proved quite effective. However, we loaded up a setup from Coach Dave Academy via the Delta app's auto-install feature, and the car felt amazing. It was sure-footed around corners and was super confident over kerbs. This showed us that adjusting the setup makes a huge difference in terms of overall speed as well as consistency.
