It was recently announced that GT2 cars will be introduced to Assetto Corsa Competizione (ACC) during last weekend's 24 Hours of Spa race. The GT2 series will be available as a complete pack featuring all of the official cars. This is fantastic news and confirms that ACC is still being supported for not only performance and bug fixes but for new content as well.
Everyone knows GT3 cars and that they are the main series within ACC. However, not everyone is aware what exactly are GT2 cars.
SRO GT2
The GT2 motorsport category form part of the Grand Tourer range of cars that already include GT3 and GT4. However, despite the name, GT2 cars are not one step higher than GT3. GT2 cars are actually in-between GT3 and GT4 in terms of performance over a lap.
The cars are similar to GT3 with regards to them being based on high-performance road cars but have more power than GT3 with a lot less downforce. The aim of this new category was to make it a bit easier to drive for amateur drivers when compared to GT3. The engines used in Gt2 are in the 640hp to 700hp range. GT3 however is 560hp.
This means that these cars will be far more sensitive to load transfer changes but should be overall very enjoyable to drive.
Conclusion
We've always been fans of the Gt3 cars in ACC and enjoyed the high downforce driving style that they require. The Mclaren 720S is our favourite by far and rewards precise and consistent driving.
The new Gt2 series cars however seem like a different driving style will be in order. We think that this will make it more appealing to a wider player base and should be a welcomed addition to ACC.
